A Liveable Community:
- Is safe and secure;
- Has affordable and appropriate housing and transport options;
- Has supportive community features and services;
- Allows independence so people can age in place;
- Gives opportunities for people of any age, background, or in any situation to be part of their community.
DIFFERENT PARTS OF A LIVEABLE COMMUNITY
COTA continues to advocate at all levels of Government for a stronger focus on Age Friendly Liveable Communities principles to be at the heart of planning and decision making around designing systems and resourcing services in Tasmania.
We have designed several resources to support others to think in inclusive ways:
The Framework to support older Tasmanians is set out in A Respectful, Age-Friendly Island: Older Tasmanians Action Plan 2025-2029Â which was launched on 22 January 2025.
It states “The Tasmanian Government’s vision is a respectful, age-friendly island where older Tasmanians are valued, connected, and supported”.
COTA Tasmania supported the development of this Plan and consulted heavily across Tasmania to ensure the issues, needs and voices of older Tasmanians, their families and communities were central. We will work closely with Department of Premier and Cabinet to ensure the Plan is monitored, resourced and provides impactful change to support Tasmanians to age well.
