Elder abuse is more common than you might think. It can be physical, emotional, financial, or even neglect – and it often happens behind closed doors.

What is elder abuse?

It is any act that causes harm to an older person in a relationship where trust is expected. It could be by a family member, friend, carer, or service provider.

Signs of elder abuse:

  • Unexplained injuries or withdrawal
  • Sudden money problems or missing belongings
  • Being isolated from family or community
  • Fear, anxiety, or changes in behaviour
