World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD)
World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is held each year on 15 June. The day was designated by the United Nations General Assembly to raise awareness of the abuse, mistreatment and neglect experienced by older people.
It is a time for communities to come together, speak up against elder abuse and challenge the ageism that often drives it.
For more than ten years, COTA Tasmania has marked World Elder Abuse Awareness Day through our annual regional walks, bringing communities together to stand in solidarity, start conversations and advocate for a safer, more respectful Tasmania for older people.
