A Respectful, Age-Friendly Island
The Tasmanian Government’s Older Tasmanians Action Plan 2025–2029 presents a bold vision: “a respectful, age-friendly island where older Tasmanians are valued, connected, and supported.
Working Together for Change
Developed informed insights from over 1,500 Tasmanians through the HEAR (Healthy, Engaged, and Resilient) consultation, the Plan outlines a five-year roadmap to improve well-being, strengthen connections, and drive inclusive policy across health, age equality, housing, transportation, elder abuse prevention, and economic participation.
COTA Tasmania played a central role in shaping the Plan, facilitating the statewide consultations that grounded it in real experiences and community priorities.
Our Commitment
As the leading voice representing older Tasmanians, COTA Tasmania is committed to working in partnership with the Government, contributing actively to all stages of implementation, and advocating for adequate resourcing to ensure actions translate into real, meaningful shifts in how older Tasmanians live and age in Tasmania.
We warmly welcome the Government’s commitment, more than $3 million invested in the first two years of the Plan to support key priorities, including elder abuse prevention and age-friendly environment initiatives.
Shared vision and ongoing collaboration:
Together, we are working toward:
- Reducing ageism and ensuring older Tasmanians feel respected and heard
- Strengthening social connection, participation, and support services
- Enhancing wellbeing, safety, and independence for all Tasmanians as they age.
As the Plan moves forward, COTA Tasmania remains dedicated to ongoing collaboration, monitoring, and advocacy; ensuring older Tasmanians continue to shape and benefit from Tasmania’s journey toward being a truly respectful, age-friendly island.
Generations Connect–Bridging the Gap. Strong communities are built on connections between all ages. Generations Connect brings older and younger Tasmanians together through creative and community activities.
What we do:
- Run intergenerational events and workshops
- Break down stereotypes about ageing
- Promote mutual respect and understanding
We believe ageing is everyone’s future, and we all benefit from learning from each other.
