For older adults especially, tai chi comes with many benefits. It has been shown to improve balance and reduce falls risk. The physical components targeted by tai chi – leg strength, flexibility, range of motion and alignment– tend to decline with age, but all are needed for us to stay upright.
Classes will begin with breathing and loosening exercises to open joints and relax tight muscles, before moving on to gentle stretching with qigong and working on the discipline of the tai chi form.
Tai Chi and Qigong suit all levels of physical ability and can be done by anyone who can stand up as no work is done on the ground. Seated classes also available. Loose comfortable clothing and fitted flat soled shoes are worn. Please check with your doctor if you have any health concerns.
