COTA commends Tasmanian Government on strategy addressing elder abuse

COTA Tasmania, the leading advocate for older Tasmanians has congratulated the Tasmanian Government on the launch of its strategy aimed at combating elder abuse.

CEO Craig Chadwick said COTA recognised the Government’s efforts in acknowledging the multi-faceted nature of elder abuse.

“By specifically highlighting cultural abuse and coercive control as forms of elder abuse, the government has taken significant steps towards addressing these often-overlooked aspects of mistreatment. This inclusive approach reflects clear understanding of the unique challenges faced by older Tasmanians and the government’s determination to providing a
comprehensive solution,” Mr Chadwick said.

COTA supports the Government in effectively implementing the strategy.

“We are committed to working collaboratively with government agencies, community organisations, and all stakeholders to ensure initiatives that address elder abuse are implemented. Together, we can continue to build a community where older Tasmanians are safe, valued, and treated with the dignity they deserve, Mr Chadwick said.
