Age Friendly Communities

COTA Tasmania’s advocacy in age friendly design principles aligns with the WHO Age Friendly Cities Framework. Feeling safe, supported and included within our communities is about much more than housing design and the built environment.

WHO Age friendly Cities Framework

 LIVEABLE COMMUNITY ASPECTS

COTA continues to advocate at all levels of Government for a stronger focus on Age Friendly Liveable Communities principles to be at the heart of planning and decision making around designing systems and resourcing services in Tasmania.

We have designed several resources to support others to think in inclusive ways:

The Framework to support older Tasmanians is set out in A Respectful, Age-Friendly Island: Older Tasmanians Action Plan 2025-2029 which was launched on 22 January 2025.

It states “The Tasmanian Government’s vision is a respectful, age-friendly island where older Tasmanians are valued, connected, and supported”.

COTA Tasmania supported the development of this Plan and consulted heavily across Tasmania to ensure the issues, needs and voices of older Tasmanians, their families and communities were central.

We will work closely with Department of Premier and Cabinet to ensure the Plan is monitored, resourced and provides impactful change to support Tasmanians to age well.
