COTA Tasmania welcomes today’s launch of the new Ticket to Wellbeing initiative, providing eligible Tasmanians two $100 vouchers each financial year to spend towards the cost of sport and active recreation membership or registration.
“We are proud to have been the driving force, alongside Clubs Tasmania, in the push to establish the Ticket to Wellbeing program across the State. We have been working closely with Active Tasmania and are encouraged the program will provide the same opportunities for cost-of-living relief and healthy activity as it does for younger people,” said COTA CEO Brigid Wilkinson.
Brigid Wilkinson said to remain active and access regular exercise classes during cost-of-living stresses, may not be financially possible for many Tasmanians.
“People are continuing to make hard decisions about how to stretch their limited income. Having assistance to enable people in our communities take up a sport or physical activity program or reconnect to a previous group is timely.
Sports will include badminton, golf, tai chi, pilates, swimming and strength-based fitness classes.
“Older Tasmanians continue to tell us the social connection they receive through exercise classes or sporting groups is just as important to them as the physical health benefits, so we see this initiative having a broad impact that will strengthen networks in local communities.
Over 100 activity providers have already signed up to the program and we encourage all clubs, fitness and sporting groups across the state to get involved and specifically market their offerings to Tasmanian seniors”.

An extension of the Ticket to Play program was recommended in COTA Tasmania’s 2024-2025 Budget submission
