National Healthy Ageing Day launches across Australia

On 6 May, National Healthy Ageing Day highlights how simple, everyday choices can help us stay independent, connected and able to keep doing what matters at every stage of life.

Healthy ageing is not about doing everything at once. It is about taking simple, practical steps that support independence and quality of life over time. This could mean regular movement, staying engaged with your community, trying new activities, or using assistive tools that make daily life easier and safer.

This year’s theme, Keep doing what matters, highlights the importance of maintaining the activities, relationships and routines that bring meaning and purpose to our lives. It also reminds us that it is never too early to start thinking about how we want to age. The choices we make in our 40s, 50s and 60s can shape our health, confidence and independence in later years.

At COTA Tasmania, we recognise that healthy ageing looks different for everyone. Our role is to support older Tasmanians to remain active participants in their communities, with access to the information, services and opportunities they need to live well.

We are proud to support National Healthy Ageing Day and encourage our community, members and partners to be part of this important conversation.
