Funding for the Living Longer Living Stronger program in Tasmania concludes on 30 June 2023. After this time, COTA Tasmania will no longer be administering the program, including delivery of the instructor accreditation course. Existing instructors and providers in Tasmania will retain their Living Longer Living Stronger accreditation status.
Become a Living Longer Living Stronger instructor
Do you enjoy working with clients to improve their health and have a keen interest in working with older people?
Start your journey as a qualified Living Longer Living Stronger instructor by enrolling in the next accreditation course.
The course is open to fitness professionals (holding Certificate III and/or IV in Fitness qualifications), exercise physiologists and physiotherapists.
Living Longer Living Stronger is an evidence-based program that encourages and supports change in the health and fitness sectors to achieve improved health, quality of life and fitness of people aged 50 years and over.
The program seeks to maximise opportunities for people to engage in affordable, high-quality, results oriented strength training programs over the longer term.
Accredited Living Longer Living Stronger providers (sites) only use instructors who have successfully completed the Living Longer Living Stronger course (or the Strength for Life course, which is the previous program brand). It is industry best training for implementing progressive strength training programs for older people.
Course outline
The accreditation course will introduce you to the principles of the Living Longer Living Stronger program and expand your knowledge of strength and balance training for older adults. You will learn about risk assessment and fitness testing; exercise and equipment selection; warm up and cool down activities; how to tailor your training for various chronic conditions; and much, much more!
The multimode delivery of the course involves online learning through our learning management system (COTA Learning) and a one day face-to-face practical session.
The online component must be completed prior to attending the workshop, as it’s foundational material that we build on during the workshop and sets the scene for your practical assessment.
You will receive a suite of digital and hard copy resources as part of your accreditation course participation.
On successful completion of the course you will receive a certificate (digital: PDF document) and be registered in our database of accredited Living Longer Living Stronger (and Strength for Life) instructors.
